Pearl Harbor Day parade, service Saturday in Peru

 

Peru Veterans Memorial Group will hold its 34th annual Pearl Harbor Day Parade and Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 on Water Street in Peru.The parade will begin at the Peru River Rescue Station, 1829 Water St. and proceed west to South Shore Boat Club, Peru.The guest speaker will be Nancy J. Fink, a highly-decorated commanding officer of the Chicago Navy Recruiting Office. Fink received her Navy commission in 1991 through the Nuclear Power Officer Candidate Program. Fink taught math and nuclear reactor theory for the Navy. She was a researcher in the distribution and assignment division and assumed duty as deputy director. She returned to Great Lakes, Ill. in 2010, serving as operations officer for the Naval Service Training Command.Four Pearl Harbor survivors and three members from the China-Burma-India Veterans Association will attend this year. One survivor will throw a wreath into the Illinois River and a firing squad will perform a 21-gun salute.
