Report leads police, river rescue to Barto Landing

Peru Rescue Station members and Peru police search the Illinois River near Barto Landing in Spring Valley on Wednesday afternoon for unspecified evidence reportedly thrown in the water.

Peru police chief Doug Bernabei said police searched the river, and recovered various items, following a burglary report issued at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Bernabei subsequently said the report of burglary proved unfounded, but the case remains under investigation.
